Traditional Feast — Sunday between Jan. 1st & Jan. 6th or if no Sun., on Jan. 2nd: Novena (2013): 12/24 — 1/1; Regular Feast — Jan. 3: Novena: 12/25 — 1/2:
How did God let us know, that His Divine Son was to be called Jesus? Why was God The Son, the Word-Made-Flesh called Jesus?
“[26] And in the sixth month, the Angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth, [27] To a Virgin, espoused to a man, whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and The Virgin’s name was Mary. [28] And the Angel being come in, said unto Her: Hail, full of grace, The Lord is with Thee: Blessed art Thou among women. [29] Who having heard, was troubled at his saying, and thought with Herself what manner of salutation this should be. [30] And the Angel said to Her: Fear not, Mary, for Thou hast found grace with God.
[31] Behold Thou shalt conceive in Thy Womb, and shalt bring forth a Son; and Thou shalt call His Name Jesus. [32] He shall be great, and shall be called The Son of The Most High; and The Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of David, His father; and He shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever. [33] And of His Kingdom there shall be no end. [34] And Mary said to the Angel: “How shall this be done, because I know not man?” [35] And the Angel answering, said to Her: “The Holy Ghost shall come upon Thee, and The Power of The Most High shall overshadow Thee. And, therefore, also The Holy, Which shall be born of Thee, shall be called The Son of God.” (St. Luke 1:26–35) (taken from drbo.org)
“When, as His Mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, She was found with Child, of The Holy Ghost. [19] Whereupon Joseph, Her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose Her, was minded to put Her away privately. [20] But, while he thought on these things, behold the Angel of The Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto Thee, Mary, Thy Wife, for That, which is conceived in Her, is of The Holy Ghost. [21] And She shall bring forth a Son: and Thou shalt call His Name JESUS. For He shall save His people from their sins.” (St. Matthew1:18–21) (taken from drbo.org)
“[21] And after eight days were accomplished, that The Child should be circumcised, His Name was called JESUS, which was called by the Angel, before He was conceived in the Womb.” (St. Luke 2:21) (taken from drbo.org)
The Name of Jesus, God The Son, Is, of course, Sacred. Whenever it is spoken (and whenever one reads it) all of those, who hear it or speak it, should BOW their heads.
According to the Bible:
“[6] Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a Man. [8] He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to The Death of The Cross. [9] For which cause God also hath exalted him, and hath given him a name which is above all names: [10] That in The Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth: [11] And that every tongue should confess that The Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God The Father. [12] Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but much more now in my absence,) with fear and trembling work out your salvation. ”
(Philippians 2:6–12, taken from drbo.org)
We can see why The Name of Jesus and all of the other Names for The Three Divine Persons in The One GodHead, “God-Community” are Sacred and are not to be used as expletives, exclamations, such as “Oh my God!” when one is not speaking to God or “Jeez!”/“Jesus!” when one is not speaking to Jesus — these are definitely sins against the 2nd Commandment and are NOT taken lightly by God. If this is a problem for you, ask your Guardian Angel to help you break this habit, immediately.
The Jewish did not even write completely the Name of God — for fear that when it was read, that it would be taken in vain. We need to recover that salutary/life-giving fear of taking The Name of God in vain, so that we do not offend God, Who hears and sees and knows all that we do, even before we do it. The following litany is one way to make up to God for sins against His Son’s Most Sacred Name. Praying the Divine Praises is another way to do so.

Let Us Pray.
O Lord Jesus Christ, Thou hast said, “Ask and ye shall receive; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” mercifully attend to our supplications, and grant us the gift of Thy Divine Charity, that we may ever love Thee with our whole heart, and with all our words and deeds, and may never cease from praising Thee. Make us, O Lord, to have a perpetual fear and love of Thy Holy Name, for Thou never failest to help and govern those, whom Thou dost bring up in Thy Steadfast Love: Who livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen.
